Lights, Camera and Basque Kitchen Action
Eneko Basque Kitchen & Bar recently welcomed six amateur cooks competing for a place in the BBC One MasterChef UK semi-finals. Head Chef Javi Blanco introduced the group to the fast pace of a professional kitchen, where precision, timing and meticulous attention to detail are non-negotiable.
The contestants learned the secrets of Basque cooking, preparing dishes such as Hake tempura with a rich red pepper sauce, Grilled duck breast with quenelles of ultra-thin mushrooms and unforgettable Egg yolks tempura with mashed potato.
Chef Javi also had high expectations for the desserts, as the hopefuls tried their hand at Pineapple with celery foam and sweet celery ribbons and the show-stopping Rose marshmallow with strawberry sorbet, enrobed in fragrant smoke.
